LPL Client Letter: September 2024
Market commentary from the research offices of LPL Financial
For most of our clients, bringing the objectives of their lives into reality requires significant financial resources over a long period of time. Assessing and allocating your financial resources in a comprehensive and coordinated manner—with your specific goals in mind—is our sole focus.
The process always begins with a review of your current investments. The success or failure of your investments determines success or failure in your ability to create and sustain the kind of life you’ve envisioned for yourself and your family.
The process of asset allocation begins with an analysis of your current portfolio. We’ll meet to discuss the financial goals required, the timing of when resources will be needed and, finally, your risk tolerance in relation to the types of investments you prefer. This guides us in allocating your portfolio.
In contrast to some advisors, our analyses take into consideration all of your investments—whether managed by Kaplan Financial or not—including 401(k) accounts and outside holdings. We are happy to provide direction on the allocation of these as well, without fee, in order to provide you with the most complete picture of your entire portfolio.
Portfolios are reviewed through three interrelated “lenses.” The first is personal: Will any upcoming changes in your life require additional income? Should your risk tolerance be adjusted as you get closer to retirement or due to other events in your life? The second lens reflects asset performance: We’ll evaluate how well your portfolio compares to the returns of the relative indices, making adjustments to manage returns within the context of your plan. The third lens drills down deep into each holding to see how they may be affected by: changes in the business environment of particular industries; changes in competitive dominance; and disruptive new technologies or services that may impact the future performance of a holding.
Barron's Top 100 Financial Advisors 2022 is based on assets under management, revenue produced for the firm, regulatory record, quality of practice and philanthropic work.
The Forbes ranking of America’s Top Wealth Advisors, developed by SHOOK Research, is based on an algorithm of qualitative criteria, mostly gained through telephone and in-person due diligence interviews, and quantitative data. Those advisors that are considered have a minimum of seven years’ experience, and the algorithm weights factors like revenue trends, assets under management, compliance records, industry experience and those that encompass best practices in their practices and approach to working with clients. Portfolio performance is not a criterion due to varying client objectives and lack of audited data. Neither Forbes nor SHOOK receives a fee in exchange for rankings.
